Seatbelt Purchasing Guide
Do you ever buy, install, or recommend seatbelts? If so, these are the questions you NEED to have answered:
- Can you or your seatbelt distributor provide actual test data to prove the seatbelt meets federal requirements? Anyone can type up a Certificate of Compliance. Demand proof of compliance in the form of test reports and test data.
- As importantly, are your seatbelts CONTINUOUSLY tested and validated? Some manufacturers or distributors test once and then assume all future lots of product meet requirements.
- Does your manufacturer or distributor have an engineering staff that oversees testing and that can answer your technical questions?
- Recalls happen. Does your manufacturer or distributor understand federal law that governs the proper conduct of a safety recall? Can they contact every customer and vendor in the supply chain to notify of the problem and verify which customers received which product?
Seatbelts are not an average piece of automotive equipment. Seatbelts are an ENGINEERED safety device and must be built under strict manufacturing processes.
If you answered “NO” or “I’m not sure” to any of these questions you may be compromising your safety or your customers.
